highway 12. pan around i show you the sierra nevada chain control on all routes leading to the lake tahoe area. here's time lapse of the way it looked this afternoon. snow was just piling up. resorts reporting anywhere from about 2 to 14 inches of snow so far and counting. winter storm warning is going for the sierra nevada. scattered showers here in the bay area tonight. isolated thunderstorm a possibility and more showers in the forecast for tuesday and wedneay. here's front that brought the heavy rain this morning. made for a nightmare of a commute. behind it we still have all the scattered unstable air and that's going to bring scattered showers the next two days. so here's the timing of it all. we have the showers right now at 11:00 p.m. we take you into 5:00 a.m. notice very scattered in nature so do carry umbrella if heading out the door. first thing in the morning get a nice lull or break in the action most of the afternoon early evening and tomorrow night next batch of moisture approaches.so here's how much rain we expect up until 11:00 p.m. tuesday. quarter tore half

to rotate in. clouds coming out from the sierra nevada are almost done. we have the combination of the two giving us a cloudy day. this low has been out there for three weeks. it's finally moving. it moved east yesterday. continuing to move east. still sending back in clouds. mostly cloudy. cool. and underneath that you get the westerly breeze. light rain, drizzle, coast bay. some big low considering it wasn't that strong for about a couple weeks ago. it picked up moisture. it's moving but still giving us a cloudy pattern. there is a westerly component. once that low goes through, i would expect it to turn more north westerly. we are seeing signs of that. it will still be a cool day. 50s on the temps. they seem to be stuck due to the low clouds and combination of the high clouds. one low moves out. another system coming in right here. we will still keep low clouds and drizzle on the coast. could be a few isolated showers and this evening this weak system comes in keeping the pattern cool. by tomorrow things will improve. so clouds, a lot of clouds. mostly cloudy and cool. could be some sun

the sierra nevada right over us coming over the low pressure in southern california. but counterclockwise is the way the wind flows around the low. look what's coming up on the sierra. as this low goes south, most of that cloud cover should stall. instead of going over us, by tonight it should be closer to the south bay. gilroy, no doubt about it, took hongers. .75. but also numerous reports of hail about 2 inches deep. so the low moves south, you can see the low as it has thunderstorms from last night coming down. showers are moving south. a lot of lower clouds, a cooler, breezy pattern. some of that is moving up to the sierra nevada. the wrap-around effect bears watching around here. temperatures today start in the 50s. they will send up -- they will end up in the 60s. the system there is bumping the low out of the picture. look what's coming up from las vegas where there's big thunderstorms around mammoth and seattle. watch what happens right there. right there. coming in this evening around 6:00. you can see another round of shower activity. the low clouds are not going anywhere today

light rain and in the valley seeing rain. and sierra nevada some of the snow totals should be impressive here. it's been going on for almost a day. you can see that rain turning the mix and then into white, still winter storm warnings out until 11:00 this morning. so this system continues to stack up on snow and also the windy conditions as well for some as well. things will calm down by this afternoon. 40s, upper 40s, napa and santa rosa in there at 46 and even san jose at 49 degrees, cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions but the moisture continues to be funneled in here. now the low should start to move a little bit by tonight into tomorrow but not before we have what could be another active day today. it's one of those ones where it looks like a mostly cloudy, off and on showers, possible thundershowers later on but a cool, breezy day with generally highs in the low to mid-60s for everybody and really kind of stuck here for a day or two. so not much change from yesterday, on forecasted highs i think a lot of cloud cover, looks like some lifting towards the north bay. hold onto showers h
